EPNS (electro-plated nickel silver)...?

Unread postby coppernut » Fri Oct 05, 2012 7:57 am

Hello all,
Ive been given 3 large carrier bags full of what i thought was silverware :) , however after a bit of homework i find that the said stuff is
EPNS, electro-plated nickle silver :( .

But anyway the items are very old, with good markings on them.

However they are very dirty with age, does anyone have any idea on how to clean them?
I put a couple of large spoons in some silver cleaner one come out lovely and this turned out to be silver :D , but the other one got discolured to a slight brassy colour?

Any help appreciated
Be Lucky

Do you have a buyer? I got left with some plated silver that I thought would fetch a pretty penny, but I never found any company that would buy it. Jewellery makers, antique centres, not even scrap assayers wanted ENPS. Sadly, they ended up at the carboot. Just wondered if you'd found someone who's be able to pay for the silver content.

Not much Silver on them though, that's why no one wants the stuff.
I recover the Silver but wont pay much for EPNS.

Last lot i bought at a carboot sale was something like 3kg for 50p,
Once i have the Silver off, i'm left with the Nickel Silver base metal which is 60% Copper, 20% Nickel and 20% Zinc.
I just throw them into a big plastic barrel and when it's full i'll weigh them in.
